Updates in Novapoint Road

Road Task

When using template “from existing ” when creating a road or rail model task, the result of the last calculation will be stored as features to the Quadri model. For rail models older than 18.30 (and early versions of 18.30) the ballast and tracks will be stored on the Object type tracks. For New Rail models these will be separate solid objects for the tracks.

Sub surface layers Task

In Novapoint 19 it is important to define subsurface layers as a consistent volume. If a model only has a ground surface layer, Road/Rail and WS will assume that the whole model is of soil. As soon as one subsurface layer is defined, the material under the lowest layer is always assumed to be rock. If you want to define all material under ground surface as rock, not soil, the easiest method is to define a thin vegetation layer – Forest topsoil (5cm) - by offsetting the terrain surface.

If an area with topsoil, or replacement soil is defined, it is necessary to define what material is ouside these areas. If the material is to be soil then a lower soil layer needs to be defined (with a hole for areas with rock). If rock is outside these areas then a thin vegetation layer should be defined.

Without the lower soil layer the material under the soft spot removal layer will be taken as rock:

Areas of topsoil or rock can be defined by 2D polylines imported from e.g. AutoCAD:

A Sub surface task needs to be created for each area separately.
If a topsoil area is defined without a lower soil surface the model will be interpreted as having rock outside the topsoil volume in a cross section with topsoil present and soil, when there is no topsoil in the cross section:

…and a cross section where there is no topsoil present in the cross section:

To achieve a consistent model a lower soil layer needs to be defined or a thin vegetation layer if the model should be rock.

Road model – View – Illustration symbols…

This was not working properly in previous versions of Novapoint 19. Symbols were only shown when a symbol coincided with a calculation point. This has been corrected.

Road model – Data – Roadsurface… (New)

Inherit on the median (0.x surfaces) will now read the slope from the following surface with values.

-0.1 and -0.2 inherit the slope from -1.1. \\

-0.1 and -0.2 take their slope from -1.1, 0.1 and 0.2 take their slope from 1.1.

Road model – Data – Road surfaces… (New)

It is now possible to make a copy to the opposite side/clear contents by right mouse click. \\

Updates in Novapoint Railway

Alignment Design

  • LandXML export is now available from Alignment Design. This export can also export aligments not stored in the model, and also includes railway specific data (cant, speed, etc.)
  • Break function implemented for the horizontal alignment. This function will break the alignment in the requested position.
  • Added possibility to import switch points to the reference points grid. The function is accessed via the right click menu in the grid.
  • We have slightly increased the size of the status-bar to improve readability.

Switch design

  • It is now possible to choose witch characteristic point of switch to use, when inserting (SS, BK, BKA, TK).
  • We have updated the list of switches (Norwegian only)

  • Some minor bug-fixes
