Setting Out Data

In Novapoint 21 the solution for exporting Setting Out Data from the road task is removed compared to NP20 and earlier. Instead we are transitioning to exporting data directly from the Quadrimodel.

At the current state (NP21.FP2 and forward) we have implemented a new export conversion rule to handle and sort data (left-to-right) so that they land in a LandXML-file with topology and as irregular lines.

This format is ideal for direct use in a Total Station.

The file will be sorted as follows:

  • Alignment geometry
  • Road surface
    • -7.11 surface edge
    • -6.11 surface edge
    • -5.11 surface edge
    • -4.03 surface edge
    • ….
    • 1.01 surface edge
    • 1.02 surface edge
    • 2.01 surface edge
    • etc.
  • Wearing course
    • Left-most surface edge TO right-most surface edge
  • Binder course 1
    • Left-most surface edge TO right-most surface edge
  • Binder course 2
    • Left-most surface edge TO right-most surface edge

etc. etc.

How to export with a template?

Start the function for exporting to file

Pick the export template to use

The templates for Stake Out/Setting Out data will guide you through a wizard.

Pick the road task to use

Define the from-to chainage if needed

When the wizard finishes it will have picked the necessary task and objects for the export.
The export format assosiated with the template is also set, here LandXML.
We will also see a checkbox related to 'StakeOut' which notes that a limitation in chainage is applied with From-To Chainage (the full length is not used).

Pick the conversion rule to use
Here we have picked the conversionrule called 'Irregular Lines'.

Conversion files will export files compatible with different receiving softwares.

Irregular Lines → Leica RoadRunner.

Now complete the export with the Finish-button.

How to export without a template?

If you would like to export without a template this is also possible.
The procedure is basically the same as for exporting with a template, except that we need to define the content for the export manually.

Note that the receiving software only handles data from one roadmodel along its alignment.
The alignment MUST be included in the export.

If you would like to export all the stringlines related to this roadtask for the full length we are now done and can proceed to picking the conversion file before completing the export task.

Limiting the export to specific data or chainage

If the export should be limited to specific data (only road surface and/or specific pavement layer(s)) or chainage range the user must edit the content in the Select Feature Query. This can be done even if a template is used or not to specify the data.

Go to the Features part in the Dynamic Query inside Select Features

The conversion rule for 'Irregular Lines' only considers the features for:

  • LinearElement
  • StakeOutStringTopLevel
  • StakeOutStringStructure
  • StakeOutStringSubgradeImprovement

Pick the feature type needed for the export.

Feature type LinearElement MUST be included in the selection for the file to be usable!

If there is a need to filter on specific data, then do a filter based on any attributes to get only the stringlines that are needed in the file.

Here we have picked some data:

  • LinearElement (representing the alignment)
  • StakeOutStringTopLevel (representing all the road surface stringlines)
  • StakeOutStringStructure (representing all pavement stringlines
    • Filtered on layername containing “base_course_2” (stringlines only for Base Course 2)

The results will include the alignment, all road surface stringlines and stringlines for only pavement layer Base Course 2.

Finish the export task.
